Chinese Stock Market Lures ‘Investment Biker’ to Asia

Back in January, 2006, I wrote about some neighbors of my Wife’s family home back in Anhai, China, and how their luck in the Chinese stock market turned south – as perhaps did they, having to flee the town over owing other residents a handsome sum they had lost on their behalves with some losing investments.

Well, not everyone is as down on the Chinese stock market now as all those neighbors. In fact, one New York millionaire is so bullish on Chinese stocks that he’s packing up and moving to Asia.

Per James Poole of Bloomberg News:

Jim Rogers, the hedge-fund manager and author of “Investment Biker: On the Road with Jim Rogers,” said he’s put his New York town house on Riverside Drive up for sale for $15 million so he can move to Asia, where he predicts a boom in Chinese stocks.

“Our child is bilingual in Mandarin and English, so we would like to move to a Chinese-speaking city,” said Rogers, 63, a former partner of George Soros who foresaw the start of a commodity rally in 1999. “Whether it’s Singapore, Shanghai or Hong Kong, who knows?”

Rogers traveled through China by motorcycle and car in the 1990s researching investment ideas and collecting material for his books, which also include “Adventure Capitalist: The Ultimate Road Trip” and “Hot Commodities : How Anyone Can Invest Profitably in the World’s Best Market.”
